The Adelante Movement is a demotic movement that endeavors to unite and empower Latinas economically. It will relate Latinas and their families to work, start-up capital, franchise and entrepreneurial opportunities, and mentoring — to enable them to organize collectively by playing a leading role in American society, economics, and politics. The California-born indigene graduated at the age of 27 with her doctorate in electrical engineering from Stanford University. She joined NASA in 1991 to work in the Astronaut Office developing computer software and robotics. During her voyages into space, Ellen worked as a missions veteran and flight engineer on the space shuttle.
